At Whisper, I was the only intern for quite a while. It is a very small company with tons of turnover, but because of the lack of organization in the company I was assigned tasks normally not given to an intern, and I ended up learning a great deal. The owners of the company are a bit demanding and short-fused, but the relationships I made with the account executives I worked for were terrific and once they embraced the company's constant turnover and left the company, I ended up working with them again at their new jobs. Whisper PR gave me great opportunities, like working backstage at one of their client's shows at fashion week, but it also taught me what to look for in a company when deciding where to intern. The owners of the company were constantly yelling and the structure of the space we worked in was small and did not allow for any privacy whatsoever so I heard things about clients that I should never have been previewed to. This internship was rewarding in some ways, however, if you are a stickler for organization and a stable work environment, it might not be for you.
